My Green Smoky Eye from MAKE UP FOR EVER

In case you missed the memo, the black and grey smoky eye is over! Not that it isn’t nice anymore but it just isn’t as wild as it once was. This year, turn up the heat with your smoky look by throwing in some colour. As you know, MAKE UP FOR EVER gave me a complementary smoky eye on my birthday a few weeks back with their Limited Edition Smoky Palette ($50) and here’s what I think of it.

I met with Marie-Laure at Sephora at Carrefour Laval on August 27 and she gave me this amazing green smoky eye. My eyes are what I like to call “not completely brown.” There are very tiny flecks of green that no one else can see but me normally but green eyeshadow really made my eyes look lighter. I loved it. Plus, it’s not as wild and crazy or unwearable as I thought it would be.

Marie-Laure used the lightest shade in the palette and applied it with a wide eyeshadow brush to start to brighten up my eyes, especially in the inner corner of the eye and the on the brow bone. Then she smudged some green on three-quarters of my lid, starting with the outer corner. She also added some green eyeliner as a base to make the colour pop even more and last longer.

What I thought was really cool is that she then used a stomper brush to add some dark purple only in the crease on the outer side of the eye. This barely shows but it gave my eyes just the right amount of colour and kept the look from being monotone. It’s a simple way to get a sultry gaze with minimal effort. The trick is to apply gently, start with less and gradually apply more. And as pro Marie-Laure says, “Try everything with makeup. It’s not a tattoo. If you don’t like it, you can just wash it off.”

To complete the look and enhance my eyes even more, she used Smoky Lash Mascara in Green. I was literally afraid of this mascara when I first saw it but as you can see, it’s very subtle. It’s not noticeable to the naked eye but it definitely brings out the colour of the makeup and my eyes even more.

Visit Sephora to get your own kit today, but I must warn you: you may overspend. I was supposed to leave only with my smoky items for the purpose of writing this post yet I still wound up buying two more products: Full Cover Camouflage Cream (where have you been all my life?!) and Uplight Face Luminizer Gel. At least I got to walk away with a complimentary gift bag thanks to my purchases!

Will you dare to try a colourful smoky eye this fall?
